ASTORIA, Ore. - The Coast Guard rescued an injured man from a cliff near North Head Lighthouse near Ilwaco, Wash., Thursday.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River in Astoria received a request for assistance from the Pacific County Fire Department at 5:22 p.m. after it was determined the man's injuries would make it difficult for cliff rescue personnel to retrieve him. The 34-year-old man from Selah, Wash., was fishing from the rocks with friends and fell while climbing back to shore.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew was dispatched to the scene where a rescue swimmer was deployed to the cliff face. The man was then taken to Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment in Ilwaco where emergency service personnel were waiting to transport him to Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco.
