The big old cedar above the Koi pond died last year. We will replace it with a bamboo wind break. 
A total of 12 trees have come down. Now we get to cut them up and clear them away. We had Oscar and crew just lay them on the ground.
The big bucket truck got stuck in the soft ground (after the rains). It took a really big tow truck to pull it out!

Passport to the Discovery Coast....Lite Bite 2005
A benefit for the Clatsop County Women's Resource Center in Astoria. 12 restaurants provided tasty lite bites. We each had "passports" that were stamped at each restaurant table. It was a fun time!
Sous Chef Cleveland Graham, Chef/Proprietor Michael Lalewicz and Proprietor Nancy Gorshe of The Depot. They had the most excellent and delicious "Indian fry bread topped with smoked salmon and chive goat cheese, drizzled with cranberry balsamic mignonette AND Elk stew with parsnips and leeks."
Chef "Red" Pelletier and owner Ann Kischner of The Shoalwater Restaurant in Seaview with their Lite Bite entry.... "Roasted and grilled vegetable salad served on fresh artichoke bottoms."

Update on shipwrecked barge! Still there!!
It looks like I was very lucky and was one of the only people who were able to hike in and take photos. Wow! They are hoping to refloat the barge and pull it out on Wednesday. Everything is closed down to the public...but we can hear the helicopters buzzing overhead. Scroll down for more photos of this on the blog.

Brett and I are enjoying getting to know the locals. South Pacific County made a good showing at the annual Pacific County Lincoln Day Dinner in South Bend.

A weekend of auctions in Long Beach, Wa.
Sandy Bradley and Ginger Harshman enjoy wine and oysters before the silent auction ends and the live bidding begins! This fund-raiser benefited a beloved local artisan who has been very ill. The night before was the humane society auction event.
Royal Harshman and the skipper/bartender... enjoy some wine to wash down all the fabulous oysters. I have never had such nice oysters! All kinds...but the best were freshly shucked by Larry Warnberg.
Photo of Chief Nahcotta's great grandson...hanging at The Depot. (not really...just some old Jewish guy from Encino) I was coerced into buying it at the auction... my plan is to sneak it into local businesses... and hang it to surprise everyone. Kind of like the traveling Gnome in Amelie. We will get the business owner to sign the mat...then I will wisk it away to the next location... you never know where he will show up!
Shipwreck adventure!
First reports stated the barge was full of fuel... bad news if it leaks out on the pristine beach front. They have decided it was only carrying its own diesel at the time. Still a bit of a risk for the beaches.
North Head Lighthouse is on my left and Beards Hollow is on the other side of the rocks on the right. I left the house in the middle of pouring rain, hail and wind... parked at Beards Hollow and hiked up to the Lighthouse. I was soaked through to the bone...but the adventure was breath taking! Quite a sight!!
